Ollama packages model management, local inference, command-line chat and a REST API into a service developers can run on their own machines or in containers. The project provides a model library, commands to download and run models, a model configuration format, and Python and JavaScript client libraries. It also documents ways to launch coding-agent integrations against the service.
Ollama is usually the model-serving component in a larger setup rather than a full replacement for a desktop chat workspace; clients such as Alpaca and Open WebUI provide additional user interfaces. The project builds on llama.cpp, which has its own separate entry in this catalogue.
