Workflow automation

Prefect

Adds workflow orchestration to Python functions while preserving ordinary dynamic control flow.

Overview

Research summary

Prefect turns ordinary Python functions into observable workflows and tasks. Developers can retain dynamic Python control flow while adding scheduling, retries, caching and deployment configuration. Runs can be monitored through a self-hosted server or the separately offered Prefect Cloud service. For AI applications, Prefect can coordinate ingestion, transformations and calls to models or other external systems without providing the model itself. The core workflow framework is Apache 2.0 licensed and implemented primarily in Python. Hosting and commercial cloud capabilities should be evaluated separately from the open-source framework.
