Research summary

The Software Agent SDK is the execution layer that the OpenHands Agent Canvas entry refers to but does not itself implement. It provides Python primitives for defining and running software agents, tool execution, conversations, workspaces and sandboxed or remote execution backends. Separating this entry from Agent Canvas makes the architectural boundary visible: the SDK is the reusable runtime/framework, while Canvas is the browser-facing management and automation surface.

This distinction matters when comparing architectures: Canvas can evolve as an operator experience while the SDK defines conversations, events, tools and execution environments that other applications can embed directly. The repository therefore exposes the boundary between reusable agent semantics and deployment-specific UI. It is also relevant for sandbox research because execution backends can be treated as replaceable infrastructure rather than hard-coded shell access, allowing local, containerized or remote environments to share the same higher-level agent API.
