Agent frameworks
LangGraph
Graph/state-machine style orchestration with durable state, resumability and explicit control around agent loops.
Overview
Research summary
LangGraph is LangChain's lower-level framework for building stateful and controllable agent workflows. Applications model execution as a graph whose nodes perform work and whose state can persist across steps, pauses and resumptions. This makes the framework especially relevant for long-running agents, human-in-the-loop checkpoints, multi-agent coordination, memory and workflows that need deterministic routing around non-deterministic model calls.
LangGraph can be used with LangChain but is not restricted to LangChain applications. In the LangChain stack it sits beneath higher-level agent abstractions such as Deep Agents, providing the execution and persistence primitives while those frameworks add opinionated tools and behavior. The principal repository is a Python implementation under the MIT license.
Hosted LangSmith deployment and observability services are adjacent commercial offerings rather than part of the open-source LangGraph license.
