Overview
Research summary
Agent Skills specifies a portable way to package instructions, scripts, references, and other resources for compatible agents. Each skill lives in a version-controlled folder with SKILL.md metadata and instructions. The format uses progressive disclosure: clients first discover a skill from its identifying metadata, load the full instructions when it becomes relevant, and then access supporting resources as needed.
This separates reusable procedural knowledge from an individual conversation or model implementation. The repository contains the specification, documentation, and reference tooling rather than a complete autonomous agent. Support and execution behavior depend on the client, and installing a skill does not establish a security sandbox for its bundled scripts.
