Overview

Research summary

OpenSkills manages skill packages for agents that can consume an available-skills description and load instructions on demand. Its command-line workflow installs skills from repositories or local sources, makes their metadata discoverable, and can synchronize a skills section into AGENTS.md. This provides a reusable distribution and discovery layer without requiring every project to manually copy the same instruction folders.

The tool does not supply the model or agent loop, and the receiving client must still interpret the generated metadata and load the selected skill. Installation also does not audit bundled scripts or grant them safe execution by itself, so skills should be reviewed as executable project dependencies where appropriate. The TypeScript implementation declares Apache 2.0 in LICENSE, despite the automatic repository metadata returning an unrecognized license identifier.
