Steel Browser

A reusable browser infrastructure service with session lifecycle and extraction APIs already included.

Overview

Research summary

Steel Browser packages browser infrastructure behind an API for agents and applications. It manages Chrome sessions, browser state, cookies, proxies, and process lifecycle, while allowing clients to connect through common browser-automation protocols and libraries. Additional APIs convert pages into formats such as Markdown, screenshots, and PDF, and a web interface helps inspect sessions. Developers can run the Apache-2.0 implementation locally or on their own infrastructure. Steel Cloud is an optional managed deployment rather than a requirement of the open-source server.
