Overview
Research summary
SpecKit Companion provides a control surface over specification-driven work instead of implementing a standalone coding agent. It renders repository specs as structured documents, supports line-level review comments that remain committable project state, follows specification and implementation runs live, and maintains optional living capability specs that can expose drift as code changes. Projects can run stock Spec Kit or a configurable Companion pipeline, compose custom phases and hooks, and dispatch supported AI tools while keeping spec and run metadata in ordinary files rather than an extension-owned remote database.
The VS Code extension is implemented in TypeScript and licensed under MIT.
