Overview
Research summary
Shotgun is centered on producing implementation-ready specifications for other coding agents. Its local code graph is used before specification so research can identify existing patterns, dependencies and architecture; specialized internal agents then move through Research → Specify → Plan → Tasks → Export. Planning mode exposes checkpoints and confirmation before file-changing work, while Drafting can run the generation pipeline end to end.
The resulting repository artifacts and exported instructions are designed for agents such as Cursor, Claude Code, Codex and others, and larger changes can be divided into staged PR-sized units. The Python implementation is open source under MIT, with optional hosted/team functionality layered on top.
