Research summary

Semantic Kernel is Microsoft's MIT-licensed SDK for integrating language models, plugins, agents and workflow-style processes into conventional applications. The repository contains .NET and Python implementations and has historically supported provider abstraction, function and plugin invocation, vector-store integrations and multi-agent orchestration. It remains an important architectural and historical reference in the agent-framework ecosystem, but its current documentation explicitly directs new agent development toward Microsoft Agent Framework, which Microsoft describes as the enterprise-ready successor.
