Research summary
Qwen Code provides a conversational terminal agent that can navigate a repository, search local and external context, edit files, execute commands, and create commits. Although integrated closely with Qwen models and Alibaba ModelStudio, it supports Qwen, OpenAI, Anthropic, and Gemini-compatible APIs, third-party gateways, custom endpoints, and local Ollama or vLLM deployments. Its workflow includes plan and approval modes, sandboxed execution, automatic memory and skills, MCP tools and data sources, LSP integration, subagents, and multi-agent coordination.
Companion integrations extend the same framework to IDEs and other clients, but the terminal remains the primary interface represented by this catalog entry. The TypeScript framework is Apache-2.0 licensed and publicly implemented. It originated from Gemini CLI and subsequently diverged into an independently developed, multi-protocol framework, so it should not be treated as a thin Qwen model wrapper or a current Gemini CLI distribution.
Actual behavior and tool reliability still depend on the selected model, provider configuration, credentials, sandbox support, and user-approved permission mode.
