Coding agents
Poolside
pool can act as both an ACP server and ACP client, and combines specification-driven work, subagents and multiple model backends.
Overview
Research summary
The pool command supports interactive multi-turn sessions, one-shot execution for scripts and CI, and editor use as an ACP server. It can also act as an ACP client for another compatible agent server, in which case available capabilities depend on that server rather than Poolside's built-in agent. Build and Plan modes separate modification from read-only analysis, while independent approval modes control whether tool calls are requested, edits are accepted automatically, or actions are risk-classified.
Configuration can define tool and path allow or deny rules, sandboxes, project instructions, MCP servers, skills, lifecycle hooks, and named subagents. Sessions can be resumed or rewound, and ACP sessions expose persistence, configuration, slash commands, and mid-turn steering. Subagents use separate context but share the workspace, so concurrent edits can conflict.
Hooks can inspect or rewrite activity but fail open and are explicitly not a security boundary. The public repository provides releases and documentation; its license file refers users to Poolside's EULA, and no open-source core implementation is verified.
