Research summary
OpenCode is implemented primarily in TypeScript and Bun and published under the MIT license. Running the terminal application starts both a TUI client and an HTTP server; the same server can run headlessly and publishes an OpenAPI specification used by the project SDK. This separation supports multiple interfaces and programmatic control over projects, prompts, sessions, diffs, shell operations, LSP status, and MCP connections.
Users can configure hosted or local model providers rather than being tied to one model vendor. Built-in primary agents separate unrestricted implementation work from planning and analysis, while specialized subagents can explore code, research dependencies, or perform custom tasks in child sessions. Agent definitions can select prompts, models, and fine-grained permissions for edits, commands, external paths, web access, and delegation.
MCP and LSP integrations extend available tools and code intelligence. Exposing the server beyond localhost requires deliberate authentication and network configuration; model access also depends on provider credentials or a configured local endpoint.
