Overview

Research summary

Open-Agent is a platform for assembling and running assistant workflows with multiple model providers and tool integrations. The project presents a self-hostable interface and agent execution environment that can be extended for tasks involving external services and computer-oriented interactions. Its scope is broader than a terminal coding assistant: applications can organize multiple agents and provide the tools they need to perform delegated work.

The TypeScript repository is the application and orchestration layer; model intelligence and any external services come from the providers configured by the operator. Self-hosting does not automatically keep every request local, because enabled models and connectors may communicate with remote systems. Tool permissions, credentials, and execution isolation therefore remain deployment decisions.

The source is Apache 2.0 licensed, with external APIs and model access governed independently.
