Microsandbox

Embeddable local microVM execution with snapshot and fork workflows for agent workloads.

Overview

Research summary

Microsandbox is a local-first runtime for running untrusted workloads inside small virtual machines. Its command-line interface and embeddable SDKs manage execution environments, OCI images, volumes, snapshots, and live sandbox forks. The project targets workloads including agents, generated code, development environments, and automation. It documents hardware virtualization requirements for each supported operating system and currently identifies itself as beta software. The Rust implementation uses Apache-2.0, with supporting SDKs and agent integrations for controlling the runtime from application code.
