Research summary
Junie is JetBrains' coding agent for completing repository-level development tasks from natural-language instructions. It is available as a terminal application, as Junie Local inside JetBrains IDEs, and through CI/CD or GitHub workflows. Documented examples include building features, analyzing a project, reviewing branch changes, diagnosing failures, fixing tests, and adding regression coverage.
Junie uses JetBrains' IntelliJ platform technology for code understanding and is designed around a guided workflow in which users can review, redirect, and approve changes. Authentication options include JetBrains-managed access and bring-your-own-key connections to supported model providers, so the agent is not tied to one model family. Junie remains a proprietary JetBrains product governed by the JetBrains AI Service Terms.
Its public repositories require careful interpretation: JetBrains/junie provides installation, usage, release-channel, and issue-tracking material, while JetBrains/junie-acp-release is specifically a binary and registry release feed for ACP distribution. The latter explicitly states that it is not Junie's source tree and that its metadata does not relicense the binaries. The existing Kotlin implementation attribution therefore should not be read as evidence that the complete implementation is publicly available.
