Research summary
Google Agent Development Kit (ADK) is an Apache-2.0, code-first framework for building, evaluating and deploying AI agents. The Python implementation provides primitives for individual agents, multi-agent composition, tools, sessions, events, callbacks and workflow orchestration, together with development and evaluation utilities. Google describes ADK as optimized for Gemini and the Google ecosystem while remaining model-agnostic and deployment-agnostic, so applications can separate the agent framework from the selected inference provider and hosting environment.
ADK also has official implementations for additional languages; this catalogue entry uses the Python repository as the primary metric and source repository rather than pretending that one repository contains every runtime. The framework can be used locally during development or integrated with Google deployment services. Those hosted services and model APIs are separate from the Apache-2.0 license of the open-source ADK code.
