Agent frameworks

Genkit

Combines AI application SDKs with a local workflow playground, tracing and evaluation tools across multiple languages.

Overview

Research summary

Genkit is an application framework developed by Google’s Firebase team for composing generative AI features. Its SDKs expose model generation, structured output, prompt templates, tool calls, retrieval and flows, while provider plugins connect to Google models, other hosted services and local runtimes. A CLI and local developer UI let developers run prompts and flows, inspect traces and compare evaluation results.

Applications can deploy to environments supporting their language runtime, including deployments outside Firebase. The repository covers JavaScript/TypeScript and Go alongside Python and Dart, with different stability levels; some newer Go agent APIs remain explicitly in preview. The framework code is Apache-2.0 licensed, while any selected hosted model or monitoring service has its own access and commercial terms.
