Overview

Research summary

Factory Droid is the agent runtime within Factory's broader development platform, while Droid CLI is its keyboard-first terminal interface. In the CLI, Droid uses project context to plan, edit, test, and review changes, displaying plans, tool calls, diffs, and approval requests alongside direct shell access. Reusable Skills, Custom Droids, MCP servers, lifecycle Hooks, and Plugins extend the harness. droid exec provides headless execution with structured input and output for scripts and CI/CD.

For larger bounded projects, Missions add an upfront planning phase that decomposes work into features and milestones, selects or creates skills, and hands execution to Mission Control for orchestration and validation. Missions can be monitored, paused, steered, and recovered; Factory explicitly describes them as not fire-and-forget and notes that its approach to parallelization is still being evaluated. Sessions and context can continue across Factory surfaces, including terminal, IDE, web, desktop, mobile, and collaboration integrations.

The core product is proprietary. The linked Factory-AI/factory repository contains a README and documentation assets plus links to adjacent public integrations, not a verified complete implementation or license for Droid itself.
