Research summary
Snowflake documents Cortex Code under the current CoCo name as an agent integrated with Snowflake for data engineering, analytics, machine learning, and agent development. It is available through Snowflake's web interface, a desktop IDE, and a local CLI; the CLI can inspect and edit local repositories, run Bash and Git commands, execute SQL, inspect tables, validate Cortex Analyst semantic models, and manage multiple Snowflake connections. Snowflake RBAC still governs platform access, while the CLI adds OS-level sandboxing, risk assessment, and tiered approvals.
Project behavior can be shaped through AGENTS.md, skills, hooks, subagents, profiles, plugins, and MCP servers. ACP support lets compatible editors use the CLI as a local backend and receive streamed responses, tool calls, and diffs. The browser experience is more constrained than desktop or CLI because it does not read and write local repositories.
MCP, ACP, plugins, and the Agent SDK are documented as preview features. This is a proprietary Snowflake product; no public core implementation language or source repository is identified.
