Overview

Research summary

Claude Agent (ACP adapter) is a TypeScript bridge that exposes Anthropic's Claude Agent SDK to clients implementing the Agent Client Protocol. It is not Claude Code or the Claude runtime itself. The adapter translates ACP sessions and content into the SDK's agent loop, supporting context mentions, images, streamed tool calls, permission requests, edit review, TODO lists, interactive terminals, slash commands, client-provided MCP servers, and nested subagent transcripts.

It also defines optional ACP extensions for long-running goals, structured failures, recommended model and effort settings, and richer permission presentation. Native subagent sessions depend on bilateral capability negotiation; otherwise child activity is represented through ordinary tool calls or flattened into the root session. The bridge is Apache-2.0 licensed, while use of the underlying Claude Agent SDK is governed by Anthropic's commercial terms and depends on Anthropic services and authentication.

The open repository therefore documents and licenses the interoperability layer, not a freely licensed Claude core.
