Overview

Research summary

Autohand Code is a terminal-native TypeScript coding agent that reads project context, plans changes, edits files, executes development tools, and can test or automate work across a repository. Its interactive interface includes file mentions, slash commands, session history, provider switching, skills, hooks, extensions, and configurable permission modes. Read-only plan mode blocks mutating tools until a plan is explicitly accepted, while unrestricted modes remove approval prompts and require greater operational caution.

The agent includes persistent memory and reflection-oriented workflows, can delegate focused tasks to subagents to keep the main context smaller, and supports browser and MCP tools. Git integration covers inspection and modification operations, with optional automatic commits after task completion. It also offers non-interactive prompts and a TypeScript SDK for programmable agent workflows.

The source is published in autohandai/code-cli, but its licensing requires a caveat: the repository includes the standard Apache-2.0 license while its README and COMMERCIAL.md state that organizations exceeding the specified annual recurring revenue threshold must obtain a separate commercial license to use, modify, or distribute the software. It should therefore not be described as unconditionally Apache-2.0 licensed.
