Overview

Research summary

Auggie CLI places Augment's coding agent and context engine in a terminal workflow. When started in a project, it indexes the current workspace and can incorporate related repositories, giving the agent repository-wide context for code exploration, debugging, feature implementation, and coordinated edits. Interactive mode provides a full-screen interface with streamed responses, visible tool calls, session history, file diffs, model selection, workspace management, images, and permission controls.

An ask mode limits the agent to retrieval and non-editing tools. Auggie can connect to configured integrations and MCP servers, and it loads project or user rules from sources including AGENTS.md, CLAUDE.md, workspace guidelines, and .augment/rules. A one-shot print mode makes the CLI usable from shell scripts and CI/CD, although Augment documents that non-interactive automation may depend on the customer's agreement.

The public augmentcode/auggie repository provides installation metadata, examples, workflow files, documentation, and access to the distributed Node.js package; it should not be treated as a published implementation of the proprietary context engine or service. Its custom license permits the CLI only for accessing Augment services under an active subscription and restricts modification, reverse engineering, redistribution, embedding, and some commercial use.
