Workflow automation

Apache Airflow

Mature Python workflow scheduling with a broad operator ecosystem for data pipelines.

Overview

Research summary

Apache Airflow represents workflows as code, with tasks organized into directed acyclic graphs. Its scheduler and execution components coordinate runs, dependencies and retries, while the web interface supports operational inspection. It is particularly relevant for data preparation, periodic ingestion and other batch processes surrounding machine learning and AI systems.

Airflow is not itself an LLM agent framework, and its scheduled workflow model should be evaluated against the application’s execution requirements. The Apache project is implemented primarily in Python and distributed under Apache 2.0; commercial managed Airflow services have separate terms.
